Carbon Fiber CFF™ (Continuous Filament Fabrication) Spools. Carbon fiber is high performance, superior and lightweight. It has the highest strength to weight ratio for 10 times the strength of Onyx. Carbon fiber reinforcement is perfect for applications requiring the greatest possible stiffness and strength but as light a feather. We also recommend you purchase an additional Nylon spool for every CFF spool.
Carbon fiber is a thin filament made up of carbon atoms organized into a crystalline structure. Because of its very high stiffness and strength it is widely used in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Carbon fiber has a flexural strength of 470 MPa (68 ksi) which is 20% higher than the yield strength of 6061 aluminum. Its tensile strength is 700 MPa (102 ksi), more than twice the ultimate tensile strength of aluminum.

In three-point bending, our 3D printed carbon fiber is 8x stronger than ABS and 20% stronger than the yield strength of aluminum.

3D printed carbon fiber is 25x more rigid than ABS and 2x more rigid than the rest of Markforged’s reinforcement fibers.
Strength to weight
Compared to 6061 aluminum, 3D printed carbon fiber has a 50% higher strength-to-weight ratio in flexure and 300% higher in tension.

When To 3D Print With Carbon Fiber
Carbon fiber material is strong enough to replace aluminum 6061 at half the weight; use it when you want superior stiffness and minimal deflection.

Application Spotlight
Haddington Dynamics is a company that developed Dexter, a 3D printed robotic arm made almost entirely out of Markforged parts. Reinforced with continuous carbon fiber filament material, the arm is stiff and lightweight enough for the robot to have a precision of 50 microns (about 0.002″).
