Ultimaker Error Code: Causes and Basic Solutions

Of course, all users who experience printer failure are frustrated. But we firmly believe that many of you will be even more frustrated when they don’t know how to fix a problem when encountering a different error code on a printer.

We are absolutely confident that almost every time you face any problems, you tend to have your printer repaired without solving the basic problems first. This is because you may not understand each error code. Today, Septillion will take you to look at the causes and solutions when you encounter various error codes from Ultimaker printers.

Version Error Code Cause Basic Solution
S5 ER67 – Dehumidifier Is Not Working Correctly

If you see this error, the dehumidifier of the Material Station has failed its self-test upon boot up. The dehumidifier of the Material Station has a number of electronics for correct functioning. Upon boot up, the software tests for proper functioning of all its electronics.

  1. Power down the Ultimaker S5
  2. Remove the power cable from the Material Station
  3. Wait for 1 hour with the Material Station and Ultimaker S5 powered down
  4. Replug the Material station and Power up the Ultimaker S5
S5 ER68 – The Humidity In The Material Station Is High
  1. Leaving the Material Station door open for a prolonged period of time
  2. Environmental humidity around the Material station has been over 70% for a prolonged period of time
  1. Power down the Ultimaker S5
  2. Remove the power cable from the Material Station
  3. Replug the Material station and Power up the Ultimaker S5
S5 ER80 – Expected Air Manager Is Missing
  1. The Air Manager has been removed or disconnected, but not deinstalled from the Ultimaker S5
  2. There is a loose cable connection between the Ultimaker S5 and the Air Manager
  3. The cable between the Ultimaker S5 and the Air manager is damaged or broken
  4. There is a problem with the electronics of the Air Manager
  1. In case you want to continue using the Air Manager, make sure the connections between the Air Manager and the Ultimaker S5 are in order and properly connected
  2. In case you want to deinstall the Air Manager, remove the Air Manager according to the disassembly instructions. Reboot the Ultimaker S5 and confirm you have removed the Air Manager when asked
S5 ER86 – Air Manager Fan Is Unable To Rotate At The Desired Speed
  1. An object is physically obstructing the rotation of the Air Manager fan
  2. There is not enough space behind the Air Manager
  3. External ventilation is interfering with the Air Manager fan control
  4. There is an error in the software controlling the Air Manager fan
  5. The Air Manager fan is defective
  1. Ensure the Air Manager fan is clear of unwanted objects and debris. If necessary, clean the Air Manager fan
  2. Ensure there is at least 10 cm clearance behind the Air Manager
  3. Ensure the Ultimaker S5 is running the latest firmware
S5 ER998 – An Unspecified Error Has Occurred This is an error that is not recognized by your Ultimaker S-line printer. In this case, there likely has been a communication error between the services that interact with the touchscreen. The exact origin of the error is unknown. However, the printer control mechanism may still be working, and so it may still be possible to control the printer using Ultimaker Cloud and Ultimaker Connect.
  1. Sometimes the error can be clicked away
  2. If the error remains on screen, power cycle the Ultimaker S3/S5 using the on/off switch. Wait until the printer has completely shut down before turning it on again
  3. Update the firmware to the latest stable version
S5 ER999 – An Unspecified Error Has Occurred This is an error that is not recognized by your Ultimaker S-line printer. In this case, it seems there is a problem with the printer control software.
  1. Power cycle the Ultimaker S3/S5 using the on/off switch. Wait until the printer has completely shut down before turning it on again
  2. Update the firmware to the latest stable version
S5 ER65 – Flow Sensor Error
  1. Clogged print core
  2. Wrong spring tension Ultimaker S5 feeder
  3. Faulty, blocked or dirty Ultimaker S5 feeder
  4. Obstructed Bowden tubes
  1.  Verify that your print core is not clogged. You can do this by following our guide on print core cleaning found here: Clean the print cores
  2. Check the Ultimaker S5 feeder tension
  3. Perform maintenance on the affected feeder. You can do this by following our guide on cleaning the feeders found here: Clean the feeders
  4. Check if the Bowden tubes are freely accessible. If this is not the case, please replace the Bowden tubes as found here: Replace the Bowden tubes
S5 ER66 – Decouplers Not Calibrated

The decouplers in the Material Station are not calibrated. They have either been de-calibrated during transport, or calibration hasn’t been performed yet. A decoupler calibration procedure must be performed.
